How long have you been with us at Sparkling Hill?
I have been at Sparkling Hill for over 3 years now.

Why did you choose to work at Sparkling Hill Resort?
The possibility to work for an Okanagan Valley icon was irresistible. It was a chance to work in a unique health & wellness resort, and a great opportunity to do what I love the most, be part of creating memories for people on their getaways and vacations.

What past education, experiences or career paths have lead you to your current position?
I have a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and a College Degree in Hospitality Management. After working in Food & Beverage, Accounting and at the Front Desk of a historic Canadian resort and a couple of corporate hotels, I tried something different. I worked in a wealth management company. Then, I moved to New Zealand and returned to the hospitality world and never looked back since!

How would you describe Sparkling Hill Resort’s internal culture?
We are a group of hard working individuals dedicated to service our guests and create memories. Our team is made up of individuals from all over the world. We all bring our personality and culture to the group. This generates a vibrant and dynamic internal culture.

What motivates you on a day to day basis in your role?
I am extremely motivated when I hear great feedback from our guests, knowing a first time visitor is already planning a future getaway or hearing a repeat guest raving about our the resort. Also, knowing our team members are happy at Sparkling Hill is especially important.

What has been the most memorable experience or opportunity you’ve had since working for a Health & Wellness Resort?
I had the opportunity to do almost 20 sessions in our Cryo Cold Chamber with a guest during an 11 day span in the winter of 2017. We often talked about skiing and snowboarding during the sessions, but he was unable to ski that winter as he was recovering from an important injury. I saw him again at the resort in the lobby in 2018 and he had been able to ski again after a very long road to recovery.

How are you continuing education or working toward professional goals?
I regularly read about the hospitality industry as it is constantly evolving. It is so important to be creative and innovative. I keep an open mind towards everyone surrounding me as I love to learn from people and their personal experiences. I like feedback, so I am aware of where I am at.

Life in General

Tell us about your background. Where are you originally from?
I am from Victoriaville, in the center of Québec’s maple syrup producing area. Or, if you like hockey and remember the wooden stick era, it is where the Victoriaville hockey sticks were made!

What are you passionate about? What motivates you?
Riding my bicycle on a beautiful spring day around burgeoning orchards in East Kelowna or riding down on my snowboard a very steep glade run with a foot of fresh snow.

What do you enjoy doing most during your free time? What are you favorite hobbies?
Spending time with my better half, listening to music, sipping on a Central Otago Pinot Noir, riding my snowboard or bicycle and going into the backcountry.

What do you think is the best thing about living in the Okanagan?
Summers filled with sunshine, locally grown vegetables, fresh fruits and a few stops to wineries!

What is your favorite food?
Any food prepared with love and fresh products, the kid in me would say spaghetti and the adult would always find a way to eat sushi on a weekly basis!

Where in the world have you travelled to? What took you there?
I have been to Patagonia in Chile’s southern tip to hike surrounded by glaciers. I did a safari in northern India to see Tigers in the wildlife. I spent a week visiting Angkor Wat and surrounding temples on an old bicycle in Cambodia and hiked on the Great Wall of China to satisfy my appetite for history. Hiking in New Zealand’s Central Otago and Fjordland made me realize one of my many dreams. I have travelled Canada from one coast to another to know my country.

Which destination would you most like to visit and why?
It has to be Japan, one time during the winter for amazing powder days at their ski resorts and the other visit in summer months to discover the people and their culture.

What is your favorite book?
I read all sorts of books, but I do not have a favorite one. It probably was any Lonely Planet a few years ago. I used them a lot to plan my trips around the world.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?
Can I travel back in time?

Who has been your hero? Someone that you look up to in life?
It is difficult to name only one. I would say my family because they each bring something special to help me be a better person. My dad was a huge difference maker in 2018, so he is my hero today!

How do you incorporate Health and Wellness into your life?
Ideally, I start my day with a ten minute stretching session. I visit my chiropractor, physiotherapist and massage therapist for body maintenance throughout the year. Being quiet in the outdoor makes me feel like I am meditating. Does having a glass of red wine every once in a while count?
